having a very successful season in last
season’s Auckland Champ of Champ this
season looked like
may not continue our dominance with falling
at the semi-final stage in each of the Champ
of Champ events so far being Singles, Pairs
& Triples but come the Fours we again
reached the semi- finals after a tough
battle with Glen Eden.
the Semi Final we were up against ex
Hillsboro player in Gary Cotton, who also
had with him Kidd Enua, Loto Fakaalofa, Tom
King representing the Mangere Club. Our team
of Mike Galloway, newly crowned Auckland
Bowler of the year Martin Dixon, Gavin
Brown, and James Gavin Hillsboro were first
on the scoreboard with Mangere following
closely behind. Hillsboro continued their
usual consistently strong play and won some
great ends, Mangere stayed in the game but
couldn't manage to close the gap that
Hillsboro had created - the final score
being 16-6 to Hillsboro taking them through
to the Men's Club Championship Fours Final.
the final Mike, Martin, Gavin, James
continued their winning streak beating
Frankie Taungahihifo, Allan Hansen, Ray
Seaman, and Utu Vave from the Onehunga Club
19-5. Onehunga were first up on the
scoreboard but let Hillsboro take the next 4
ends making the score 8-2 in the 5th end.
Onehunga managed to win another 2 ends but
it was a Hillsboro game with Onehunga
conceding in the 12th end 19-5. A great
effort by our boys.
Mike and Martin this win gave them their
double Gold Stars to go with Gavin’s
double Gold Star when winning the recent
Auckland Open Triples with Mike and Martin.
Not to be outdone Ciaran MacElvanna also won
his first Auckland Gold Star when he was in
Chris Lowe’s winning Auckland Open Fours
was also fitting that they played Onehunga
in the final as both Hillsboro and Onehunga
are in talks about forming a new club and
combining together come the new season.
